Bringing some innovation to airplane food carts

The airplane food cart presents some very basic problems to both passengers and the flight crew:

* Whenever the flight attendants are serving food, the passengers are pretty much stranded in their seats, unable to squeeze by the cart to reach the bathroom.

* The carts often run into people's feet if they are in the aisle.

* They are kind of unweildy, adding stress to an already difficult job.

During the flight from JFK to Accra, I spent 30 minutes brainstorming and came up with the following solutions to address one or more of these issues:

1) A cart with built in steps on both sides so passengers can just walk right over the top of the cart. The steps would be tucked neatly into the design, so that storage compartments are still easily accessible yet untarnished by the dirt from your shoes.

2) A cart that is only half as wide, but twice as long. This only addresses the first problem above, but would make it much easier to reach the bathroom.

3) A cart that runs on tracks built into the ceiling of the plane, with hydraulic lifts that allow flight attendants to smoothly raise and lower it as needed. I believer this would solve all three problems outlined above. Please pass it on to any friends at Boeing.
